CMS Group Invests £500,000 in Manchester Data Centre

IT services and support company, CMS Group has invested over £500,000 in opening a new hosting and IT infrastructure support centre at the Manchester Science Park at Birley Fields in Manchester.

With offices in Blackburn and London, CMS Group specialises in tailored IT infrastructure systems and pro-active support services to a wide range of companies including manufacturing and industrial processing, through to media agencies and the leisure and hospitality sectors.

To provide the server hosting needed to manage business software applications, email and internet services for these sectors, CMS Group has opened a secure data centre at Reynolds House in Birley Fields supplemented by an IT support centre at the adjacent Turing House.

Andrew Coop, Managing Director at CMS explained: “Increased reliance on IT for centralised business applications, administration and internet services 24 hours day, seven days a week means companies are vulnerable to a single point of failure.

“One large hotel company has calculated the losses arising from a booking system failure as £20,000 an hour which shows just how important having fast, reliable IT is to modern businesses."

“The new CMS data centre provides a secure, centralised facility for application and e-mail servers, high speed storage devices, firewalls and, importantly, back-up systems and associated components; basically we can host all our clients’ computer needs so they have fast, reliable access to their IT systems."

As the data centre provides a colocation service companies can either use their own servers at the data centre or use CMS servers.

“The data centre means our clients have peace of mind,” added Mr Coop. “There are systems in place to deal with power blackouts or disasters such as fires and floods while dedicated engineers provide support 24 hours a day, ensuring hardware and software is running at its optimum level.”

CMS, which has a turnover of over £3million, also plans to have a five person team based at their Turing House support centre, providing pro-active IT support.
