Thin Client Technologies

WHAT IS THIN CLIENT TECHNOLOGY?

Thin Client Computing, sometimes referred to as Server based computing take the processing power away from the desktop and back into the server room or data centre. This provides the ability to provide a range of applications to end users regardless of location and bandwidth whilst increasing the manageability and speed and scale of application deployment.

WHY DEPLOY THIN CLIENT TECHNOLOGY? REDUCES COSTS OF DESKTOP MANAGEMENT

Thin client technology reduces the cost of desktop management by up to 50 percent by simplifying the management and delivery of all Windows applications. Centralising applications in the datacentre reduces costs and increases efficiency by enabling IT to manage a single instance of each application in an application hub, rather than using manual processes to install applications on every PC. Applications are then delivered via application streaming directly to Windows PCs for offline use or run on high-powered servers in the datacentre for online use on any device or operating system.

Thin client devices typically have no moving parts. Therefore their life span lasts beyond those of comparable PC’s. Equally impressive is their low power consumption and their low-heat output. The lack of heat means that they reduce their dependence for costly carbon-heavy air conditioning.

ACCESS AVAILABLE ANYWHERE
Thin client technology delivers access to applications instantly to users anywhere, from any device running any of over 30 operating systems. As the control is server based, applications can be delivered and managed with speed and ease. Mobile workers have access to a single secure point of access to full applications and information from wherever they are with a web browser.

IMPROVED APPLICATION MANAGEMENT
Thin client technology enables the IT department to increase the speed at which new applications are deployed. Upgrades or new software can be deployed in hours rather than weeks or months.

IMPROVED BUSINESS CONTINUITY
Thin client technology is designed to provide uninterrupted access to enterprise applications and data in the event of unplanned downtime. With the aid of a failover data centre, thin client technology can continue delivering vital applications securely and without interruption.

CITRIX XENAPP
Citrix’s XenApp suite of products have long been the de facto industry leader in the Thin Client, Server Based computing now referred to as application virtualisation. Currently in use by over 100 million users worldwide, XenApp delivers on the promise of proven application compatibility, reduction of application management / deployment and reducing costs by centralising applications into the data centre whilst delivering applications instantly to users anywhere.

Application virtualisation and centralised application management enables users to access Windows resources from any device via the Citrix Receiver (client software). This gives users access any of these centralised applications from either the desktop of web browser of over 30 different operating systems including mobile devices such as Windows Mobiles and Apple iPhones.

XenApp is a true enterprise class solution that can be deployed in any size of business and is secure by design, integrated tools allow the ability to implement a scalable solution and to control, measure and monitor performance to ensure business SLA and security requirements are met.
